English language challenges

Hi! This is the last blog of this semester and I´m going to write about my experience writing blogs each week. I think this writing activity about different topics every week it’s very useful. Personally, these activities have been useful for me because I could expand my vocabulary, and improve my grammar, these skills are very difficult for me. I’ve never had these kind of activities before, that’s why this is very interesting, different and a new way to learn, the only problem is that I often forget to comment on the other blogs but I always read the comments of my classmates.

My suggestion to improve this activity would be that maybe we can have more freedom to write about different topics and have the opportunity to talk more and learn the pronunciation of difficult words.

I think I have developed my ability to write in English even though I still have difficulties to do it, but at least now I can write longer phrases and also my spelling has improved. I’ve learnt to use online dictionaries and I realized that google translator is not best option.

There are several aspects of my English that I need to improve for example my pronunciation and my grammar, I plan to do it by reading articles, listening songs, watching movies and trying to repeat what I hear.

I do not use my English outside the English class but I like to watch English movies and series, actually I do understand the language or mostly that characters talk but my problem is that it’s too difficult for me to speak in this language.

Changes to my study program

Hi, I’m studying Psychology and this post is about the changes I would like to apply in my career.

At least my experience in this career and in this university has been really good, in my opinion there are a lot of positive elements in the curriculum and in the career in general. However, nowadays this career is in a process of curricular renewal in order to generate necessary adjustments to the curriculum to be able to respond to the diverse needs of students and teachers. The change in the curriculum aims to respond to basic guidelines, the profile of graduation and to the competences already agreed by the university community of this career.

Although the career is in a process of innovation, I think that is important to mention that there are many remarkable things in the current curriculum, for example, the Psychology career of this university has a wide range of electives and several areas of the professional field of psychology such as: clinical, educational, social, community, judicial and neurosciences. However, in spite of all the positive elements and the modifications that are being made, there are a few things that are not being considered and I would like to change, for example, in my opinion it is essential that professors take pedagogical courses because there are many of them that are excellent professionals but they have difficulties in teaching and it is hard to understand them. Also, I would like that more practical activities were included in the career, I think that many times academic activities and learning are focused on classroom. In relation to the above I think that pre-internship should be included to have more experience at the time of the internship and finally it is necessary to spread even more the available information related to entry ways as “SIPE”.

Summer plans

I can’t believe it, we are already finishing this semester, this year has gone too fast. I haven’t thought about my vacations but how this post is about my summer plans I will have to do it right now.

This year the most probably is that I’am going to travel with my family, as always we do, I think we are going to the south, Pucon, Valdivia or Puerto Varas, these places are really beautiful and the weather is nice in summer. We always choose places like these because my mom loves the south of Chile. If this summer I have the opportunity to visit Valdivia I would like to drink beer because the beer in Valdivia is tasty, but if I go to Pucon I would like to go to Cookeez, they sell the best ice cream sándwich that I’ve ever tasted, if you have the chance to visit Pucon go there.

Also I would like to travel with my friends, I hope to do something with them and that this summer we can finally go, we always plan to backpack to different places such as the north of Chile and our main destination is Machu Picchu.

This summer I want to relax, go to the beach but also I must study for my thesis that I have to do next year besides I have to study to be ready for my internship. Despite of all these I’m sure I will have free time to read a book or watch a good series on Netflix.

Postgraduate course

I would like to take a postgraduate course related to adolescent criminal offenders, because I would like to be a judicial psychologist and work with adolescent criminal offenders. To do this job I would need several abilitiess such as: comunnication and comprehension skills, team work, commitment and professionalism. In order to develop these I would need a specific training and also to have different knowledge in intervention, methods and specific techniques to work with adolescents. In this kind of job a lot of specialization is needed that´s why I would like to do a postgraduate course. Also I hope to continue studying subjects related to psychology such as victimology.

I would like to study in Chile and abroad, I prefer Chile for the language, but if I had the chance to travel I would like to go to a Spanish speaking country also I would like to improve my english in order to study in counries such as Canada, where the topic of adolescent criminal offenders is more developed.

I wouldn’t like to study a full time postgraduate course because I would like to be able to work so I could pay the course and personal things.

Nowadays is very important a postgraduate course because the labor market demands us, it´s not enough to have an universitary degree, we need more specialization everyday no matter the career. 

My Dogs

Hi everyone, as today we are free to write the topic we like I’ve decided to write about my dogs. I chose this topic because I love dogs, since I was a child I’ve had dogs as pets, at this moment I have three dogs, their names are Cholo, Sam and Leo.

 “Cholo” is the oldest, he is a German Shepard, I don’t know how old he is because he came to my home when he was several months, but he is about three years old. “Cholo” is a very smart and obedient dog, he loves to play with balls and bite all kind of things also he is a very good swimmer.

My other dogs “Sam” and “Leo” they are brothers and they are also German shepard as "Cholo", they were born on December 1st, 2015 and they came to my house in January, they are about to turn two years. Both dogs are very playful.

Unfortunately, this year we lost two dogs: Rocky and Agustin. Rocky was a short period of time with us, he came to my house in summer and then he disappeared, we thought he went outside and he was stolen. On the other hand, Agustin was a lovely dog, he lived inside the house because he was very little we loved that dog, especially my mom, unfortunately he fell from the sofa and due to that his health got worst finally he died.

In my opinion is important to respect dogs and pets as living beings, having a pet carries many responsabilities and obligations, a lot of people are not responsable with them, I´m very happy with the “ley Cholito” since contribute to the well-being of pets.

My future job

I’m  studying  Psychologist but  when I was 18 at the moment of applying to university my other option was something related to history because that was my favorite subject at school but finally I decided psychology, I always liked psychology, that's why I decided to study that career. Now I think that I've always wanted to be a psychologist.

My experience at university until now has been really good, I’ve discovered new areas in which psychologists can work and at first I thought these wouldn't be interesting but I was totally wrong.

I have a lot of options when it comes to selecting a specified type of work in psychology but I would like to be a judicial psychologist. I would like work with Adolescent criminal offenders, I imagine this job as somehow very complicated work but I really would like to work with these people. In my opinion it is very important to work with adolescent those who have committed offences because future criminal trajectory can be curtailed, and it is necessary promote the social reintegration of the adolescents who have committed delinquency always protecting and guaranteeing their rights. Its necessary multidisciplinary interventions and a social understanding of delinquency, not individualized.

I really would like travel in my job but I don’t think I can do it, also I hope I can continue studying subjects related to psychology as victimology.

Recipe: homemade "manjar"

I´m  not very good at cooking but I love sweet food that´s why I´m sharing this recipe because is very tasty and you don´t need any cooking skills to prepare it. The recipe I want to share is: homemade "manjar".

I don’t  know where this recipe comes from, different versions exist on their origin, but my mom taught me when I was a girl, she always does it especially in winter.

The first time I cooked homemade "manjar" was at a friend's house, I cooked it to teach them the recipe, we also wanted to make pancakes so we decided to make homemade "manjar" to fill them.

The ingredients for this recipe are: 2 liters of milk, 900 grams of sugar, and you can choose between 1 stick vanilla or cinnamon.

For the preparation it is necessary to put in a pot, preferably of copper, all the milk, the sugar and the vanilla or cinnamon on low heat. When it starts to boil it is necessary to stir with a wooden spoon.

This recipe is very tasty, the only problem is that it has a lot of sugar and there are people who can not eat it for that reason.
